Term 3
Term 3 is underway and with a nice Christmas break behind us, we are ready to get started with our learning in 2025.
In maths, we are returning to a unit on place value, refining our skills for rounding, including numbers up to 3 decimal places. We will also be exploring negative numbers; comparing, adding, subtracting, finding the difference between two integers and counting them in steps. After that, we will be focusing on coordinates and geometry, thinking abuot reflection and translation by tackling problem solving questions to enhance our knowledge and skills. We are also going to be begin to think about our upcoming SATs test by practising SATs questions to ensure that we are prepared.
Our writing lessons this term will be centered around the book Skellig by David Almond. Skellig tells the story of Michael, a young boy who discovers a mysterious, bedridden creature in an abandoned garage near his new home. The creature, named Skellig, appears to be part human and part bird and Michael becomes fascinated by its strange abilities and presence. As Michael bonds with Skellig, he also faces personal challenges, including his newborn sister’s illness and the strain it places on his family. Michael’s friendship with Mina, an unconventional girl, deepens his understanding of life, death, and transformation. The novel explores themes of hope, mystery, and the power of human connection in the face of uncertainty. We will be aiming to produce a piece of writing empathising with the protagonists mother. We will explore character feelings and thoughts, incorporating writing skills such as expanded noun phrases, reported speech alongside the other Year 6 writing skills.
Alongside these core subjects we will be also be covering a wide range of topics in our wider curriculum subjects:
RE: Christmas and Revelation
History: Britain at War
Science: Electrical circuits and components
Computing: Scratch, Algorithms and Dugging
PE: Gymnastics
Art: Inuit art
PSHE: Personal relationships and keeping safe
We look frward to another jam packed term of learning.
