Year 5 Learning Synopsis – Term 4

This term, Year 5 students will engage in a diverse and enriching curriculum that fosters academic growth, creativity, and personal development.

  • Mathematics will focus on 3D shapes, coordinates, fractions, decimals, and percentages. Students will also enhance their understanding of time, measurement, and four operations while tackling problems related to area and perimeter.
  • English lessons will explore The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein. Pupils will develop instructional writing skills and rewrite parts of the story.
  • Religious Education (RE) will deepen students’ understanding of Lent and Holy Week, exploring their significance in Christian teachings and how they inspire reflection, growth, and a closer connection with God.
  • Science will cover living things and their habitats, with a focus on comparing life cycles and the process of reproduction in plants.
  • Physical Education (PE) will enhance students' athletic skills, with an emphasis on indoor athletics, balance, and aiming techniques.
  • Design Technology (DT) lessons will teach the purpose and benefits of eating, along with techniques for preparing food.
  • Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) will explore the theme "Created to Love Others," emphasising religious understanding, personal relationships, and staying safe.
  • Reading will center around Cogheart by Peter Bunzl, with activities designed to improve fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and enjoyment of literature.
  • Music lessons will develop students' musical ear by introducing tempo, timbre, and rhythm.
  • Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) will focus on developing basic conversational skills for speaking about oneself.
  • Geography will investigate the importance of agriculture through the "Sow, Grow, and Farm" unit, examining both human and physical geography.
